"Adult Public Holiday Departure" v3
Note: This flexible itinerary is very tidal dependent and is subject to change. This itinerary is what to expect on a Fraser tour. Luckily our knowledgeable local guides are experts at navigating Fraser Island’s tides and terrain and make sure you have the best experience at any time of the year.
Day 1: Depart Rainbow Beach
We begin at 7:30am on the mainland for a 1-1½ hr in-person brief at Freedom Rainbow Beach. This is for getting the information about your next 2 days of adventure (such as safety on the island, what to expect etc.) but also a great opportunity to make friends with the people you’ll be travelling with. After the briefing is over and everyone is ready to go we board for a short barge crossing to our home for the next 2 days, Fraser Island, the world’s largest sand island!
Once we land we do a quick introduction to driving the 4x4’s on the beach and then speed along Fraser Island’s highway, 75 mile beach! From the beach we head to the picturesque Lake Mckenzie, famous for its amazing scenery and crystal clear waters. Here we stop for some time to relax and enjoy the sun, sand and water. After some time to cool off with a swim, we travel to Central Station for lunch. If we’re lucky we’ll have time to see Maheno Shipwreck before we turn in for the night.
After lunch we drive to our private campsite just off of the beach. Here you don’t need to worry about setting up camp after a long day. Our premium campsite features permanent tents with comfy beds as well as a kitchen and bathroom (with hot showers!). Once everyone is settled in it’s time for dinner and some well deserved drinks. Sit back and relax while our staff cook up a storm on the BBQ and swap stories with your new friends.
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Day 2: Return to Rainbow Beach
We wake up in the morning for a quick breakfast before an awesome second day on Fraser Island. Depending on tidal conditions we’ll head up to Indian Head, which is Fraser Island’s highest point and a great spot to see whales and other ocean wildlife during July - October. Then depending on conditions we either drive to Champagne pools or Lake Wabby.
If we head to Champagne Pools you’ll be able to experience nature at it’s finest with a natural jacuzzi created from volcanic rock. Here you’ll be able to relax in bubbling water (the champagne in Champagne Pools) while looking out onto stunning ocean views before getting ready to leave the island.
If instead, we go to Lake Wabby, you’ll be able to swim in Fraser Island’s deepest lake which is surrounded by dense bush-land and unique Australian Animals. Lake Wabby is also said to disappear by being engulfed by sand in the next hundred years, so enjoy it while you can!
We then say farewell to Fraser Island as we return to Rainbow Beach - don’t be sad! Once we get back to the mainland we finish our journey at Freedom Rainbow Beach between 3pm and 4pm and say our goodbyes to all our new friends.
